Why do mechanical keyboard sounds feel so satisfying?

A screen gives your finger nothing to push against, so the click and the buzz are doing real work — closing a loop your eyes are too slow to close on their own. Why that loop matters, why identical sound on every press gets boring, and why the same phone feels flat with it switched off.

A glass screen gives a finger nothing to push against. There is no spring, no bump, no bottoming-out — just a flat pane that looks identical whether or not anything you tapped actually registered. Anything perfectly predictable gets filed as background within a short stretch of repetition — a ticking clock vanishes from awareness within a minute, while a human drummer’s small, unavoidable timing imperfections keep registering as a live event the whole way through a song. What is missing is one whole channel of confirmation, and the gap is noticeable precisely because you had gotten used to a press being confirmed twice. People reach for the screen more often to double-check a silent keyboard actually worked, not because it is less reliable, but because it feels that way with half the usual feedback gone. It is a strange effect to notice in yourself the first time: nothing broke, and typing still feels worse.
